On Orwell {pt 2}

The Mom: In 1984, what are the names of the 4 Ministries? Why do you think Orwell selected those particular names?

The 13 y.o.: Truth, Love, Peace and Plenty. Whoa – it’s irony. The Ministry of Peace is all about the war. The Ministry of Plenty handles food distribution, which is really starving people. The Ministry of Truth spreads lies, and the Ministry of Love is where citizens are tortured. Ok, maybe the last one isn’t entirely ironic.
