As Mormons, we are not strangers to intolerance and persecution. While there is NO excuse for faith-based intolerance in America, it is interesting to consider how this unpleasant episode could be part of a much larger Eternal plan to make better people out of all of us.

Consider Mormon doctrine around Adversity. We know there is opposition in all things, whether they are called trials, troubles, or distress that are instigated and fueled by the adversary. His great quest is to make all of us as miserable as he is, so it is up to us to choose to turn the other cheek and take the (moral) high road:
