On Learning Manners

The Mom: So are you ready to start talking again? I’m wondering why you decided not to talk to anyone for most of the day.
The 5 y.o.: Well, you told me at breakfast when I complained about the food that if I didn’t have anything nice to say that I shouldn’t say anything at all. So I didn’t say anything. At all.
…Even though that salad at lunch was disgusting. Why did dad make a salad from spinach? Yech.
…And I was really mad about tidying my room when I wanted to play outside.
…Then there was that movie that we watched. It was so…stupid. I like cartoons with princesses, not those talky-talky movies of yours with birds and fish and nature and stuff.
…THEN Daddy put the weird smelling coconut soap in my tubby AGAIN, so now I smell like sunscream
…And I REALLY hate, er, didn’t like, that outfit you picked out for the first day of Kindergarten. I like PINK. Not brown.
The Mom: Wow. That’s a lot to keep inside all day.
The 5 y.o.: I have more.
